POP3 Mail

All you need to know about POP3

By far, POP3 e-mail access is the most widespread standard of e-mail known to the Internet, and if you are looking to get an account, fear not, we support the standards just as much as anybody else out there, and then some.

POP3 mail access is fairly simple, if you have any of the most common web browsers, you most likely have an e-mail program as well! Most operating systems also come with built in e-mail programs (Microsoft windows, Mac OS, OS/2, BeOs, and of course, Linux)

If you do not have a personal computer or you do not wish to download your mail locally, say, at a library, or a friends house, you most likely want to use our [Web-Mail] system.

To setup your software of choice, here are the settings you will need to make everything work for you.

    To download mail:

  • Account name: Your username for ketnar.org, NOT your Internet service provider.
  • Account password: Your password for ketnar.org, NOT your Internet service provider.
  • Incoming mail server: mail.ketnar.org
  • Port: Default: 995
  • Mail type: POP3 (Or Secure POP3)
  • Leave copy's of messages on server: No
  • Reply to address: your-username-here@ketnar.org
  • We Recommend: You also use SSL crypto and Secure Authentication.

    To send mail:
(This requires that you have a modern mail client capable of utilizing Secure SMTP and TLS protocols, please see notes blow.)

  • Account name: Your username for ketnar.org, NOT your Internet service provider.
  • Account password: Your password for ketnar.org, NOT your Internet service provider.
  • Outgoing mail server: mail.ketnar.org
  • Port: Default: 25 (If your ISP blocks port 25 (many do), you may use port 465 also.)
  • Options: Use username and password.
  • Use secure connection: TLS

Please note: Ketnar.org does -not- allow open e-mail relay use, (So Spammers can't use us as a spam gateway.)

If you simply set your outgoing mail server to mail.ketnar.org without having a secure SMTP or TLS capable mail client, your e-mails *WILL NOT* go through!
(And it will probably give you some rude, vague error message.)

This is a common mistake and often throws people for a loop, so be sure to use a mail client capable of using secure SMTP and TLS.
A highly recommended and very feature-rich suggestion is the 'thunderbird' e-mail client by Mozilla.org
